The Janome Muffling Mat is an absorbent polyester mat with a dense foam-type backing that helps reduce the noise, vibration and movement produced by sewing machines. It is available in two versions: a limited edition and a heavier one with 4.2 Oz. Although it is not very thick, it appears to be effective under different machines, including sewing and embroidery machines, sergers, and TravelMate30, without damaging them. The mat is not made of wool; therefore it is hypoallergenic. However, it is not suitable for ironing. Several customers claim the mat exceeded their hopes for reducing the noise of their machines, and some would order another one. The main downside is that the mat is not wide enough for some models. Some customers also criticised the package because it was not discreet. Thus, the Janome Muffling Mat seems like an excellent investment for a quieter and more discreet sewing experience.
